Snön faller  lätt,  tyst,  vitt  Nya Kungsholmsbron, där
Falk och Sellén om aftonen vandra framåt förbi Eldkvarn och
Serafimerlasarettet för att hämta Borg ned till Röda Rummet.

-- Det är märkvärdigt vad den första snön gör för ett, jag vill inte
säga högtidligt, intryck, sade Sellén. Den smutsiga jorden blir ...

-- Är du sentimental? avbröt Falk hånande.

-- Nej, det var bara som landskapsmålare jag yttrade mig.

De gingo tysta framåt genom snön, som väste om deras fötter.

-- Är du sentimental? sade Sellén hånande.

-- Ah, prat! Inte gör det något intryck; det är misstag av dig! Se nu
äro vi framme och det lyser hos Borgen. Jag undrar om han har några
trevliga lik i kväll?
