Tomas reste sig. Han visste icke vart han skulle , men han måste röra
 sig en smula. Han var rädd att han kunde somna, om han satt kvar
längre.

Var skulle han kunna träffa Märta? Det hade han ingen aning om.

Han drev långsamt omkring  de skuggiga gångarna i parkens norra del.

 en soffa under en fläderbuske med grönvita blomkvastar satt ett
mycket magert gammalt fruntimmer med händerna i kors och blinkade mot
solen. En flaska eau-de-cologne stack upp ur den grönaktiga
sammetsridikylen, som en gång varit svart.

Hon satt där och nickade och blinkade...

Tomas kände med ens en häftig lust att sitta just där detta gamla
fruntimmer satt, under denna blommande fläderbuske, sitta där och blinka
mot solen och se ut över all den sammetsmjuka grönskan. Om hon ändå
ville resa sig och ! Hon hade säkert suttit där i flera timmar. Skulle
det inte kunna intressera henne att se, hur det ser ut i den andra ändan
av Humlegården?

Tomas gick förbi henne; efter ett par minuter vände han och gick samma
väg tillbaka.

Soffan stod tom. Det gamla fruntimret gick  darrande ben vägen nedåt,
