Morning Pages Privacy Policy

This privacy policy governs your use of the Morning Pages application for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, developed by Dahl & Sjöö.

Your Journal Data

Your journal entries are stored as plain text files in your personal iCloud container. We do not have access to your iCloud data. Your writing stays on your devices and in your iCloud account, except for content shared when you enable the optional Cloud AI features described below.

If you enable the Vanishing Pages feature, your entry text is automatically deleted after the period you choose (1, 7, or 30 days). Statistics and calendar history are preserved, but the text itself is permanently removed.

On-Device AI

Morning Pages uses Apple Intelligence (Foundation Models) to generate topic tags and other writing insights directly on your device when available. This processing happens on-device and your journal content is not sent to our servers for these on-device features.

Cloud AI (Premium, Opt-In)

Morning Pages Premium subscribers can optionally enable Cloud AI for supported AI features, including on devices without Apple Intelligence. When Cloud AI is enabled, relevant journal text, entry dates, or topic tags, together with language and feature settings, are sent to our server and processed by OpenAI through its API to generate tags, reflections, artist date ideas, and weekly walk suggestions.

We use this content to provide the requested AI features. Our Cloud AI endpoints do not save journal text to our application database, but operational logs and provider retention policies can apply. OpenAI does not use API data for model training by default. Under its standard API policy, prompts and responses may be included in abuse monitoring logs for up to 30 days, or longer for legal or safety reasons. See OpenAI's API data controls for details.

Cloud AI requests are authenticated using signed App Store transaction data to verify premium access. You can enable or disable Cloud AI at any time in Settings. Disabling it stops future Cloud AI requests; it does not delete data already retained by a provider. Notifications and nudges are generated on-device or from local templates.

Subscriptions and In-App Purchases

Morning Pages offers premium access through Apple In-App Purchases. Billing and payment data are handled by Apple, not by us. We receive limited purchase status information (for example, product and transaction identifiers) to verify entitlement and unlock premium features.

Handwriting Recognition (Premium)

The handwriting recognition feature uses Apple's Vision framework to process images entirely on your device. Recognition itself does not send images or text to external servers. Text you save in a journal entry is then handled as described in the journal and Cloud AI sections above.

Product Analytics

Morning Pages uses Amplitude and Google Firebase Analytics to understand how people use the app, improve onboarding, measure paywall and subscription conversion, and understand how often people return to write. The data collected includes:

Usage events such as app sessions, onboarding steps, writing days, word counts and goals, and interactions with features.
Paywall views, trial starts, purchase attempts and outcomes, subscription product identifiers, and premium status. Payment card details are handled by Apple and are not sent to Amplitude.
Pseudonymous installation or device identifiers, app version, operating system, device model, and event timestamps.
Approximate location derived from IP addresses by Firebase Analytics. We disable IP-address and location enrichment in Amplitude.

These identifiers allow activity from the same installation or device to be associated across sessions. This data is pseudonymous, rather than fully anonymous. We do not attach your name, email address, or iCloud identity to Amplitude events.

Journal entry text is not included in our product analytics events. Amplitude receives only a limited set of approved events and properties; we do not send it entry filenames, generated tags, search queries, or Apple transaction identifiers. Session replay and automatic interaction capture are disabled for Amplitude.

We do not use this analytics data for advertising, remarketing, or advertising measurement across other companies' apps and websites, or share it with data brokers.

Our Amplitude project is hosted in the United States. For more information about these providers, see Amplitude's privacy notice and Firebase's privacy information.

Error Tracking and Diagnostics

Morning Pages uses Sentry to identify and fix reliability problems. Sentry collects crash reports, performance data, and technical diagnostics such as device and app information, error messages, and diagnostic logs. These may be associated with a pseudonymous installation identifier. See Sentry's Apple SDK data collection documentation for more information.

Analytics and Diagnostic Data Retention

Analytics and diagnostic data are stored separately from your journal files. Deleting a journal entry or using Vanishing Pages does not automatically delete data already collected by these services. Retention periods depend on each service's configuration and retention policies. Please contact us using the address below with questions or requests about your data.

Device Permissions

Morning Pages may request access to your photo library or camera (for handwriting import) and notifications (for writing reminders). These permissions are used only for the features you choose to use.

Morning Pages may include links to external websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party websites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
