mahognysängen i den väldiga sängkammaren. Klockan var ännu bara tio.
Mannen hade varit ute sedan klockan sju  morgonen och tagit upp lin
nere vid bron, men det var alls icke i förlitande  att han icke skulle
komma hem  snart, som den unga frun tog sig den friheten att ligga 
länge, oaktat det för övrigt stred emot husets seder och skick. Det
tycktes snarare vara henne ett nöje att  bryta mot alla husets
inrotade seder och skick. Hon hade endast varit gift i två år, men hade
haft tillräcklig tid att införa genomgripande reformer i det gamla,
konservativa borgarhuset, där allting var gammalt, till och med
tjänarna; och makten därtill hade hon fått,  hennes man hade förklarat
henne sin kärlek och hon nådigt givit honom sitt ja, det vill säga i
nåder befriat sig från ett förhatligt hem, där hon fått stiga upp
