Emellertid äro de naturligen ej utan intresse och jag har därför ansett mig böra i anmärkningarna återge hela det tjugutredje kapitlet och några karaktäristiska utdrag ur den strukna avdelningen i första kapitlet -- den målande skildringen av La Croix' kafé är som tidshistorisk interiör värd att läsa, och Napoleon Lagerströms, den senare i romanen blott anonymt förekommande Rödluvekorrespondentens redogörelse för Struves öden är kanske inte alldeles utan motstycken i den samtida journalistiska verkligheten. Dessutom ha några smärre stycken vid tryckningen uteslutits.
