De lärda undersökningarna bedrevos vidare. Han hade stulit en smula gips från figurerna i Västerås, och detta inskickades nu med gipsprovet från Träskåla sakristia till Ekole pollyteknik (jag kan inte stava't) i Paris. Svaret var krossande för belackarna: analyserna utvisade att gipserna hade lika sammansättning, 77 ekvivalenter kalk och 23 svavelsyra, och alltså (!) voro figurerna från samma epok. Figurerna voro sålunda bestämda i anseende till åldern; den hela blev avritad och »inskickad» (de ha en förfärlig passion de där lärda att »skicka in» allting) till antikvitetsakademien; återstod att bestämma och rekonstruera den sönderslagna. I två år skickades de båda säckarna mellan Uppsala och Lund; de båda professorerna råkade den gången lyckligtvis vara av skilda meningar, varav strid uppstod; professorn i Lund, som just blev rektor, skrev en avhandling om figuren till sitt rektorsprogram och krossade professorn i Uppsala, som i stället fick svara med en broschyr.
