Förfriskningar inburos av betjänten.

-- Behagar herr pastorn inte en kopp te, innan vi börja? frågade
värdinnan, som åter erfor en liten missräknings obehag.

Pastorn kastade en blick över brickan.

-- Jag tackar, nej; efter det finnes punsch,  tar jag det. Jag har
gjort till en regel, mina damer, att aldrig i mitt yttre liv utmärka mig
framför mina medmänniskor. Alla människor dricka punsch, jag älskar icke
denna dryck, men jag vill icke att världen skall säga, att jag är bättre
än den, och skrymteri är en last, som jag avskyr! Får jag lov att läsa
upp förhandlingarna?

Han slog sig ner vid skrivbordet, doppade pennan och började:
