Hon skref att hon kommit upp till Stockholm för att konsultera en
läkare. När det var gjordt hade hon placerat mostern hemma  hotellet
och sjelf gått ut att drifva i skymningen. Hon hade känt sig  belåten,
hon hade, ensam, druckit chocolad  ett kafé vid Regeringsgatan och
slutligen hän emot åttatiden funnit sig sjelf  hvisslande  Gustaf
Adolfs torg. Nu satt hon hemma  hotellet i sitt sköna soffhörn och
rökte en liten egyptisk cigarett och  hade det fallit henne in att
skrifva till herr Zimmermann, att han dock måtte veta att hon varit i
staden.

William kom icke hem den förmiddagen. Han begagnade den till att
genomleta en mängd hotell,  i Kungsträdgården,  Norrbro, öfverallt
der man hoppas kunna träffa någon, man söker. Till sist gick han och åt
middag till hälften förargad till hälften glad öfver brefvet. Bara det,
att hon kommit  den idéen att skrifva bevisade ju...
